Understanding the Facebook Algorithm
Understanding the Facebook Algorithm is key to have a successful Facebook Business Page.
How does the algorithm work for a user?
Facebook takes all the available posts that they can show a user, and ranks them. They rank them for their recency, type of posts, etc. Keep in mind depending how the user interacts on Facebook, depends how important these rankings are, if they are more into "liking" then commenting, etc
Next, they get rid of any posts they think aren't important - misinformation - clickbait, etc.
Then, they will take the remaining posts - and put a personalized spin on it. Here is an example: If Jan is 25% likely to watch a video from her cooking club, but 90% likely to watch her brothers video of his new puppy, they will rank those posts in order to what they feel Jan will want to see and interact with most.
Finally, they plug in videos and other types of posts into the users timeline. Kinda like filling in the blank spaces.
How does the ranking work with posts? Facebook takes into consideration 4 things..
Relationship - Is the post from a person, business, news source etc that the user interacts with through comments, likes, messages, sharing, etc
Content Type - Is this a media source the user interacts with the most? Video, images, links, etc
Popularity - How is the post doing with comments and likes, are people sharing it, ignoring it?
Recency - How new is the post?
